The Time of Year

This is the time of year to go from a bee haver to a bee keeper. Whats the difference you may ask? Bee havers just have bees they open the hive and do what they think they should do from what someone else told them. A beekeeper understands some of the biology and behaviors of bees. The way you find these things out is by taking the time that you would usually take to go through your bees in the summer and using that time in the winter to do research. I don't just mean watching videos about swarms and fun things about bees. I mean reading and watching videos that are informative. A couple good video channels on You Tube are the National Honey Show, UoG Honey Bee Reasearch Center, Ontario Beekeepers AssociationTechnology Transfer Program and there are a couple beekeeper you could watch that are very interesting as well Micheal Palmer and a Canadian Beekeeper Blog. There are others you can watch but just be sure they know what they are talking about and that they keep bees in the north. Keeping bees in the south is a different situation. This is all available on You Tube so if you're married get a pair of headphones because she or he will eventually complain. I am lucky because I do this for a living I hook my lap top into my television so I can watch them on the big screen because some of them are over an hour long.
